Getting to Know….Patrick Carrico

What’s your favorite kind of sandwich?
It’s gotta be Lee’s Vietnamese baguette sandwiches! They had some back in California and they were simply phenomenal!

The Beatles or Elvis? Why?
I don’t think I can pick one or the other because they are both great. I like earlier Beatles because they were covering all their favorite Rockabilly artists but I do enjoy Elvis a lot more because of well, he’s the king of Rock n roll!

Lyrics to live by?
“Take This Job & Shove it”
Seems to be something I’ve done more often than I care to admit. Not sure if it’s good or bad but I seem to identify with it a lot.

“Desert Island” album?
Without a doubt it’s got to be Red Revelations by Jace Everett. Its filled with incredible lyrics, melodies, his vocals are so unique and honest, the arrangements on the songs are flawless and really there is not a dud in the entire album.

What country music artists do you listen to the most?
I listen to a lot of Dwight Yoakam and Bill Kirchen! Those two guys just know what sounds to use, what words to say to keep me coming back for more.

How do you see country music evolving within 10 years?
Oh my goodness, that’s a tough question. So far it seemed to evolve into pop rock music with banjos, in ten years I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a combination of hip hop & dubstep.😋 the classic sounds wont ever die because they are what set the foundation of what country music is and I believe those tones will always peek through no matter what the evolution of country music is.

Where do you see your musical career in 5 years?
Celebrating the five year anniversary of this question! 😋 I see myself still performing and entertaining others. To what scale, I don’t know but I love playing this music and I really love connecting with others in the process.

Are there any instruments you don’t play but wish you did? Why?
The accordion because gosh darn it, it sounds so good in Mexican polka flavored country songs.

What was the best advice you have received?
Do the best you can, do what you have to do to be a better person than you where yesterday no matter if people like it or hate it.

Where does most of your inspiration come from?
Most of it comes from my life, the people I meet, stories I hear. I don’t write too many made up stores based on ideas but I have done it.

What do you consider to be your first big break in your career so far?
Starting the Roadhouse Series at The Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena California. I was able to perform & connect with incredible players that I couldn’t even dream of had that monthly show not happened. It’s still running strong even though I moved to Paducah Kentucky. I’ll be back as the masters of ceremony when I visit.

What’s on the horizon for you that you would like to share?
I just finished a new six song cd and am currently booking shows and performing all over western Kentucky & Illinois. I’m hoping to get some Nashville shows in the near future.
